Last Five U.S. Women’s Open Winners

What she has been doing since: Coming off back-to-back U.S. Women’s Open wins and the 2001 McDonald’s LPGA Championship, Webb has resumed her pace in the 2002 season. Webb started out with a win in the 2002 Australian Open, followed by a tie for fifth at the Welch’s/Circle K Championship. She placed seventh in the Kraft Nabisco Championship, and tied for ninth at the Chick-Fil-A Charity Championship.

Webb is trying to become the first player since Willie Anderson in 1905 to win three consecutive Opens. The last repeat Women's Open champion was Annika Sorenstam (she won in 1995 and 1996). Webb has 26 career victories, three of those being majors. Her Open victory last year qualified her for the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame.

Juli Inkster (1999, Old Waverly Golf Club, West Point, Miss.)

What she has been doing since: Juli Inkster was elected to the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2000 after winning the 1999 Women’s Open and the 1999 McDonald’s LPGA Championship. This season, she has won the Chick-Fil-A Charity Championship and finished second in the Welch’s/Circle K Championship. She has also tied for sixth in the PING Banner Health tournament and tied for eight in the Longs Drugs Challenge. She has 27 career victories

Se Ri Pak (1998, Blackwolf Run Golf Club, Kohler, Wis.)

What she has been doing: After becoming the youngest player in history to win the U.S. Women’s Open in 1998, Se Ri Pak has continued to develop her game. Her first win in 2002 came at the Office Depot Championship. Pak has also placed well in the Chick-Fil-A Charity Championship and the Longs Drugs Challenge, finishing tied for fourth and eighth respectively.

Last year she finished second to Webb at the Women's Open, eight strokes behind. Pak has 15 career victories.

Alison Nicholas (1997, Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club (Witch Hollow Course), North Plains, Ore.)

What she has been doing since: The door was pushed ajar in 1997 when back-to-back Women's Open winner Annika Sorenstam missed the cut. Nicholas seized the moment, outlasting Nancy Lopez by one stroke. Nicholas’ has won one other LPGA event, the Sunrise Hawaiian Ladies Open in 1999. 

In 2002, Nicholas best finish was a tie for ninth in the LPGA Corning Classic.  She tied for 32nd in the Kraft Nabisco Championship and 43rd in the Office Depot Championship. Her low round for the year, 68, was shot in the first round of the Corning Classic and second round of La Perla Italian Open. She has four career victories.
