Kerr is a three-time winner of the Florida State Junior Girls Championship (1993, 1994, 1995). She was a member of the 1996 U.S. Curtis Cup Team and also won the South Atlantic Women's Amateur title in that year. Kerr was low amateur at the 1996 U.S. Women's Open.

Kerr turned professional on June 23, 1996, which is her father's birthday. She competed in several events on both the Futures and Players West mini tours before joining the LPGA Tour.

She recorded her first career victory in 2002 at the Longs Drugs Challenge.
