Ammaccapane attended Arizona State University where she won the 1985 Women's NCAA Golf Championship and the 1987 Pac-10 Championship. Ammaccapane also represented the U.S. at the 1986 Curtis Cup Matches. She joined the LPGA Tour in 1987 and recorded five top-10 finishes as a rookie. Her first tour victory came at the 1991 Standard Register PING.

Ammaccapane was a member of the 1992 U.S. Solheim Cup team.
