Andrews was a successful junior and amateur golfer in the state of Virginia. She won the 1983 and 1984 Virginia State Junior Championship and was a five-time winner of the Virginia Women's State Amateur Championship (1985-1989). She was the North South champion in 1984 and 1988 and was runner-up in 1989.

Andrews came on strong in the second half of the 1993 season and won the PING-Cellular One LPGA Golf Championship. She finished in the top-10 in seven of her last 11 starts.

During the 2001 season Andrews recorded three top-10 finishes, including a second-place finish at the Williams Championship and a tie for third at the ShopRite LPGA Classic. She also carded her career-low round of 62 during the second round of the Williams Championship. Her solid season helped her cross the $3 million mark in career earnings after a tie for 16th at the Asahi Ryokuken International Championship at Mount Vintage.

Andrews was a member of the victorious U.S. Solheim Cup teams in 1994 and 1998.
