Davies accumulated a notable record during her amateur career. She won the 1983 English Intermediate Championship, the 1984 Welsh Open Stroke Play Championship, the South Eastern Championship in both 1983 and 1984 and also was a member of the Great Britain and Ireland Curtis Cup team in 1984.

Davies led the WPGET Order of Merit in 1985, 1986 and 1996. Prior to becoming an LPGA member, Davies won the 1987 U.S. Women's Open. That victory led the Tour to amend its constitution and grant her automatic LPGA membership. In 1996 Davies was named Rolex Player of the Year and crossed the $3 million mark in career earnings.

She was a member of the 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996, and 1998 European Solheim Cup teams. In 1988 Davies named a Member of the British Empire (M.B.E.) by Queen Elizabeth II, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon a British citizen.

During the 2001 season Davies recorded her 20th career victory at the Wegmans Rochester International in June after posting a season-low, final-round 64. She also ranked second on Tour in putting average for the season at 28.83.
