Davies accumulated a notable record during her amateur career. She won
the 1983 English Intermediate Championship, the 1984 Welsh Open Stroke
Play Championship, the South Eastern Championship in both 1983 and 1984
and also was a member of the Great Britain and Ireland Curtis Cup team
in 1984.
Davies led the WPGET Order of Merit in 1985, 1986 and 1996. Prior to
becoming an LPGA member, Davies won the 1987 U.S. Women's Open. That victory
led the Tour to amend its constitution and grant her automatic LPGA membership.
In 1996 Davies was named Rolex Player of the Year and crossed the $3 million
mark in career earnings.
She was a member of the 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996, and 1998 European Solheim
Cup teams. In 1988 Davies named a Member of the British Empire (M.B.E.)
by Queen Elizabeth II, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed
upon a British citizen.
During the 2001 season Davies recorded her 20th career victory at the
Wegmans Rochester International in June after posting a season-low, final-round
64. She also ranked second on Tour in putting average for the season at
28.83.
