Formally known as Laura Philo, Diaz won the 1995 North South Amateur Championship and the 1996 Eastern Amateur. At Wake Forest she was the 1995 ACC champion and a first-team All-American in 1996 and 1997. Diaz turned pro in 1997 and won three times on the Futures Tour. Diaz qualified for the LPGA Tour on her second attempt.

Diaz earned her first LPGA Tour victory in 2002 at the Welch's/Circle K Championship. She followed up with a win at the LPGA Corning Classic.
