As a 1981 AIAW All-American in her fourth year of varsity golf at Ohio State University, Jones was the third low amateur at the 1981 U.S. Women's Open and was a semi-finalist at the U.S. Amateur and the Trans-National that same year. Earlier in her amateur career, Jones won the New Mexico Junior three consecutive years starting in 1974 and claimed the 1979 New Mexico State Championship.

In 1990, she became the 20th player to cross the $1 million milestone in career earnings. Jones was a member of the Solheim Cup Team in 1990, 1996, 1998 and 2000.

She earned two victories in 2001.
