Pak began playing golf at the age of 14 and won 30 tournaments in Korea
as an amateur. She turned professional in 1996 and was a member of the
KLPGA in 1996 and 1997. During the two years she competed in Korea, Pak
played in 14 events, won six times and placed second seven times.
Pak qualified for the LPGA Tour on her first attempt, tying for first
in the final qualifying event. Her first tour victory was also her first
major, the McDonald's LPGA Championship. Her second tour victory was also
a major, the U.S. Women's Open. Pak followed that with a win the next
week at the Kroger Classic and two weeks later captures the Giant Eagle
LPGA Classic.
Pak was named the 1998 Rolex Rookie of the Year.
During the 2001 season Pak won a career-best five tournaments. She claimed
the Weetabix Women's British Open, her third major championship title.
She also posted a total of 12 top-10 finishes (five runner-up and two
third-place finishes), including a second-place finish at the U.S. Women's
Open.
