Martha Wilkinson Kirouac Selected As
2004 USA Curtis Cup Captain
Far Hills, N.J. – Martha Wilkinson Kirouac, 54, of Norcross, Ga.,
has been selected as captain of the 2004 USA Curtis Cup team by the
Women’s Committee of the United States Golf Association, it was announced
Wednesday.
Kirouac played on the USA Curtis Cup team in 1970 and 1972. As
Martha Wilkinson, she was United States Women’s Amateur Champion in
1970.
"I’m excited beyond belief but scared also," said Kirouac.
"They are big shoes to fill. It’s something every player
dreams of, but doesn’t think is possible."
The 33rd Curtis Cup Match, a biennial competition between
teams of women amateur golfers from the United States and Great Britain
and Ireland, will be played June 12-13, 2004, at Formby Golf Club in
Merseyside, England. The USA has won the last three Curtis Cup
Matches and leads the series overall, 23-6-3.
In Curtis Cup competition Kirouac was 3-1 in singles play and 2-2 in
foursomes matches for an overall record of 5-3.
Kirouac is Director of Course Rating and Member Services for the Georgia
State Golf Association. She is a member of Atlanta Athletic Club. She
has two daughters, Amy, 27, and Ginny, 23.
Her late husband, Robert Kirouac, is co-holder of the record for appearances
in the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship, with five.
