Player Diary: Se Ri Pak
Se Ri Pak, winner of the 1998 Women’s Open, shot an even-par 71
in her third round and stands at 7-over 220, tied for 27th.
She shared her thoughts with www.uswomensopen.com:
[Saturday] was a great day. I was hitting the ball solid, much better
than Thursday's first round. But as my iron game got increasingly better
[Saturday]; my putting and short game let me down. One day, one aspect
of my game is pretty good and something else is not so good – [Saturday]
my putting was not very solid.
That's the way golf is. I had fun [Saturday] and I think I have a chance
to shoot a low score [Sunday]. I missed so many short birdie chances
[Saturday] and then made a couple of bogeys early, but my game is getting
better and better so I feel like I am going in the right direction.
I had a great chance on a couple holes within 10 - 12 feet, but could
only get a few of them to drop. I don't expect to make every putt I
look at from that distance, but I expect to make more than I did.
I had a couple of bogeys in the beginning of the round due to my short
game, which let me down for most of the round. I had opportunities like
at par 5s to capitalize on my shots, but my chipping was off and I was
looking at long putts for birdie instead of shorter, more makeable putts.
My approach [Sunday] will be as it was before the round [Saturday],
an 'I have nothing to lose' mentality. So I will try to do my best,
play aggressive and see how many birdies I can make.
