Miss Louise Suggs, of Carrollton, Ga.,
succeeded Mrs. Zaharias at the Prince Georges Golf and Country Club, Landover,
Md., as a second organization, the Ladies' Professional Golf Association,
assumed responsibility for the competition. Miss Suggs started with a
69 and completed a then-record score of 291, which gave her a 14-stroke
advantage over Mrs. Zaharias, the runnerup. The purse was $7,500. Miss
Carol Diringer, of Tiffin, Ohio, finished third at 306 and was low amateur.
