Scranton collected most of her amateur victories in her home state of Illinois. She won the 1983 Illinois Women’s State Championship, the 1979, 1982 and 1983 Southern Illinois Championship and the 1981 and 1982 St. Louis Metro Championship. Splitting her collegiate career between Florida State and the University of Kentucky, Scranton registered three top-five finishes, including victories at the 1984 Western Kentucky Invitational and the 1984 Southern Illinois University Invitational.
