Morgan Pressel Diary - Saturday, July 1 | |||||||||||||||
|
Morgan Pressel is a rookie on the LPGA Tour this year. She is coming off an excellent amateur career, capping it with a victory at the 2005 U.S. Women’s Amateur. Last year she finished tied for second in the Women’s Open at Cherry Hills Golf Club. This week Pressel will share her thoughts with www.uswomensopen.com: The greens were a lot less bumpy in the morning, which made it a little easier with less wind. It’s hard to putt in the wind, it really is, which one of the problems was in my first round Friday afternoon. I certainly putted a little bit better in the second round. I missed one little putt, but I felt my stroke was better today. I just didn’t get anything close, made too many mistakes and couldn’t get anything going. After my round yesterday, I practiced a little bit and then just went home and ate then went to bed. Not much else to do; I was really tired out. It’s odd, coming in to this week I felt like I played extremely well in the Wednesday practice round, which I did last week too at Wegman’s. Last week in the Wednesday Pro-Am I hit every iron to within 10 feet. I was all over it, but when you’re not putting well it affects the rest of you game (Editors note: Pressel shot 74-74 to miss only her second cut of the year). I hope I get to play 36 tomorrow, I hope I get to play. If I do, looking back on the par putt on the ninth hole, my 18th was very important as was the par putt on the eighth hole. I think that putt on the eighth could make or break me. I think the putt on eight could’ve broke me (Editors note: the putt on the eighth hole for par was 3 feet, which she missed, and the par putt on the ninth was 6 feet, which she made.). One thing that I will take away from this week is that I need to work on hitting the ball longer off the tee. I had a lot of longer clubs into greens, which makes it difficult to play golf competitively that way. |
