Morgan Pressel Diary - Wednesday, June 28

Morgan Pressel is a rookie on the LPGA Tour this year. She is coming off an excellent amateur career, capping it with a victory at the 2005 U.S. Women’s Amateur. Last year she finished tied for second in the Women’s Open at Cherry Hills Golf Club.  This week Pressel will share her thoughts with www.uswomensopen.com:

I have spent some time up here a couple of weeks ago during an off week for me and got to play four rounds around what I think is just a great golf course, Newport Country Club.

That means I’ve got a chance to play this golf course seven times now, which includes what I had done this week.  I think my time up here before and my time now means I certainly I know the golf course better than anybody.  I hope it’s an advantage this week when you need as many advantage as possible.

I like the fact that Newport Country Club is just a difficult golf course.  The rough doesn’t have to be long and the greens don’t have to be fast and the golf course is still extremely difficult.  It’s a long hard task and when the wind blows its hard to hit the ball straight.

I think it’s a great track and when you have the oldest green in country right here on our first hole, that’s kind of special -- it’s just a great place.

Coming in playing as much as I do on the LPGA Tour, obviously I should feel decent. I’ve been playing a lot of golf and I’ve certainly been hitting it well the last two days so I hope things go well for me this week, although it was completely different for me last year coming in as a amateur. It’s still the same: fairways, greens and par is a good score.  I had it altogether last year so hopefully I can bring it home this year.

Last year was last year and a lot of people asked me if I had the mindset that I could win last year.  I was there to win just like anyone else is and I’m here to win just like anyone else is.  Unless I was 12 and there to have fun, I think everyone should be here to win and they are.

This year I’m OK with my year. I haven’t played great but I haven’t played really poorly so hopefully I can play better.
