Morning Fog

Newport, R.I. - The fog rolled in Wednesday afternoon at Newport Country Club and never left as the start of the 61st U.S. Women’s Open was delayed by Mother Nature, which by 8:30 a.m. Thursday showed no signs of dissipating. Start of play was delayed until at least 3:00 p.m.

With fog horns blowing in the background from Newport Harbor, the players with tee times that were to start at 7 a.m. later mingled among themselves with caddies, instructors and friends.  Some chipped and putted on the practice green. Others just sat in the locker room.

Brittany Lang’s tee-time was 7:55 a.m.. Awaking at 5:15 a.m., the time was not to her liking.

"I’m not going to start practicing until I can see a fairway and a green," said Lang, who shared runner-up honors last year.  "I’m just going to kind of chill out."
