General Information

Autographs
Autographs are permissible, however, not during a player's round.

Bleachers
Bleacher seating will be available at on the following holes: 1, 4, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18 and the Practice Range.

Bicycle/Scooter Parking
Bicycle racks will be available at Fort Adams State Park . From there, spectators can ride a short shuttle up to the Main Admission Gate.

Camera Policy
Cameras are permitted on Monday – Wednesday ONLY.

Concessions
There will be 11 concession stands located throughout the golf course serving a variety of items. No food and beverage can be brought in to the championship.

Format
72 Hole stroke play; field will be cut to low 60 and ties plus anyone within 10 strokes of the leader following the completion of the second round.

Inclement Weather
The USGA will have meteorology staff on-site monitoring the possibility of inclement weather. If inclement weather is approaching, special “weather warning” signs will be posted on leader boards around the course.

When the sign appears, spectators are advised to take immediate precautions (including clearing grandstands) PRIOR to play being suspended. In the event of a weather warning, please avoid:

  • Hilltops
  • High places
  • Isolated trees
  • Golf carts
  • Wire fences
  • Open areas
If play is suspended, which will be indicated by 1 prolonged air-horn blast, please close your umbrella and seek shelter immediately.

Handicap Access
Pride Mobility Scooters will be provided on a first come, first serve basis at the Main Admission Gate.

Holiday Gift Package
To redeem the ticket vouchers included in each holiday gift package, simply stop by the Admission and Will Call office at the main admission gate to exchange the voucher for that day's ticket. Vouchers can be used any day of the championship. You do not need to redeem this voucher before coming to the championship.

Kids / Youth Tickets
Kids 17 and under are admitted FREE to the championship when accompanied by a ticketed adult each day of the championship. One adult may escort up to nine (9) kids. It is not necessary to notify the championship office in advance.

Merchandise
The on-site merchandise tent covering over 8,000 square feet offers a variety of merchandise bearing the U.S. Women’s Open logo.

Some of the merchandise available for purchase includes caps, shirts, T-shirts, sweaters, jackets, artwork, lapel pins, golf balls, divot repair tools, ball markers, towels and much, much more.

Acceptable forms of payment in the Merchandise Pavilion are: U.S. dollars, traveler's checks, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and VISA. Personal checks are not accepted.

Parking
Spectator parking will be available in Middletown and will be provided free of charge. Shuttles will take spectators from the parking lot to the Main Admission Gate of the championship. Click here for more information on parking.

Phones
Cell phones, PDA or other portable e-mail devices are not permitted on the grounds.

Players
156 professional and amateur players. The field will be cut after the second round.

Several players are exempt from qualifying, including 2005 U.S. Women's Open champion, Birdie Kim, Annika Sorenstam, Paula Creamer, Juli Inkster, Karrie Webb, Cristie Kerr and Morgan Pressel.

Prohibited Items
The following items can not be brought into the championship:

  • No Cell Phones – including any cell phones with photographic capabilities
  • No PDAs and/or other Portable Email Devices
  • No Noise Producing Electronic Devices
  • No Cameras and/or Camcorders (other than Monday through Wednesday for personal photographic use only and without their cases)
  • No Bags or backpacks larger than 8”W x 8”H x 8”D in its natural state
  • No Cases and/or Covers (such as chair or umbrella covers)
  • No Signs, Posters and/or Banners
  • No Televisions and/or Radios
  • No Food and/or Beverage
  • No Containers and/or Coolers
  • No Pets (other than service animals)
  • No Lawn and/or Folding Armchairs
  • No Bicycles
  • No Ladders
  • No Metal-spiked Golf Shoes
  • No Noisemaking Devises
  • No Weapons (regardless of permit, including but not limited to firearms or knives)

Any other items deemed unlawful or dangerous by the USGA and/or ChampionshipSecurity Personnel, in their sole discretion.

Parents with small children are allowed to bring strollers and diaper bags, if needed. These items are subject to reasonable inspection before entering and/or at any time during the Championship.

Purse
The prize purse has not yet been determined. In 2005 at Cherry Hills Country Club, the prize purse was $3.1 Million with $560,000 to the champion.

Qualifying
Local and sectional qualifying tournaments will be held at various courses during May and June. Click here to see the schedule; results are available at www.USGA.org.

Rain Policy
If it rains on any day of the championship, play will continue as long as it is deemed safe to do so. Each day’s ticket is valid only on the day it is printed for, therefore, a rain delay does not allow that day’s ticket to be transferred or used on a different day of championship play.

All Corporate Hospitality will be open every day rain or shine.

The USGA and 2006 U.S. Women’s Open championship staff will always keep spectators informed at the earliest possible moment of any changes made on this policy based upon situational circumstances.

Restrooms
Many locations around the golf course, mostly adjacent to concession areas.

RIPTA
Spectators utilizing RIPTA/Public Transportation from areas throughout Rhode Island, can catch a shuttle to the Main Admission gate of the championship from the Gateway Visitors Information Center.

Schedule of Events
Practice Rounds will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Championship Rounds will begin on Thursday with the field cut at the conclusion of play on Friday.

There is not a Pro/Am as the U.S. Women's Open is a USGA Championship.

Television
Live coverage on ESPN on Thursday and Friday and NBC on Saturday and Sunday. Broadcast times are:

Tickets
To purchase tickets online, click here, or visit any participating Stop & Shop, or call 1-877-325-GOLF. If you are in Newport, tickets can be purchased at the Gateway Visitors Information Center, at the U.S. Women's Open Shop in downtown at 71 Long Wharf, or at the Main Admission Gate during the week of the championship.

Kids 17 and under receive FREE admission when accompanied by a ticketed adult; they will also receive a free USGA ball cap and a voucher for a free lunch when they visit the Catch the Spirit tent at the Main Admission Gate.

Tickets purchased via the website, call center or at the U.S. Women’s Open shop in Newport will be mailed out 4 – 6 weeks in advance of the championship.

If orders are placed after Friday, June 9, the tickets will be available at Will Call at the Main Admission Gate of the championship.

Ticket vouchers purchased at Stop & Shop or included in a Holiday Gift Package can be exchanged for daily tickets at the Main Admission Gate of the championship.

Water Shuttles
Spectators riding the Jamestown water taxi can catch a shuttle to the Main Admission Gate of the championship from the Fort Adams State Park.

Spectators riding the Providence water taxi can catch a shuttle to the Main Admission Gate of the championship at the Gateway Visitors Information Center on America ’s Cup.

Will Call
Will Call will be located at the Main Admission Gate. Will Call will be a secure way to leave tickets for use by someone else. Photo ID will be required at Will Call to pick up tickets.

Vouchers
Ticket vouchers purchased at Stop & Shop or included in a Holiday Gift Package can be exchanged for daily tickets at the Main Admission Gate of the championship.
