Miss Mickey Wright, 23, of Chula Vista, Calif., led every round with 74-72-70-74—290, two under par, and finished five strokes ahead of Miss Louise Suggs, of Sea Island, Ga., at the Forest Lake Country Club, Bloomfield Hills, Mich. Miss Wright's score was a new record for the event under USGA sponsorship; the old USGA record of 291 had been set by Mrs. George Zaharias in 1954.

The youngest player to win to date, Miss Wright had taken the Ladies PGA Championship earlier in the year. Miss Fay Crocker, the 1955 Champion, scored 68 in the second lowest 18-hole round on record to that time. Amateur honors went to Miss Ann Quast, 20, of Marysville, Wash., a Stanford University student, who tied for 11th at 307.

Miss Quast went on to win the Women's Amateur Championship. The number of prize-money places was increased to 15, but the purse remained $7,200 and the winner's share $1,800.
