Miss Sandra Spuzich, 29, won the first Championship of her professional career by one stroke over Miss Carol Mann, of Towson, Md., the defending Champion. Miss Spuzich scored 75-74-76-72297 at the Hazeltine National Golf Club, Chaska, Minn.

In the final round Miss Spuzich birdied both the par-3 16th to go one stroke ahead of Miss Mann and the par-4 17th to go two strokes ahead. Miss Mann almost tied when her putt for a birdie on the 18th hit the hole. It stayed out, however, and her par 4 gained only one stroke on Miss Spuzich, who needed five strokes on the home hole.

The opening round 71 of Miss Mickey Wright was the lowest single round of the Championship and the only score under par 72. Seventeen-year-old Miss Shelley Hamlin, of Fresno, Calif., was low amateur with 311 and tied for ninth place.
