Started playing golf at the age of 12. Credits her father as the individual most influencing her career. Kang’s amateur career culminated with wins at the 1996 Rose Ladies Open in Korea and the World Amateur Championship.

* In 2005, became one of 10 Rolex First-Time Winners at the Safeway Classic presented by Pepsi, where she tied her career-low 64 during the opening round; crossed the $1 million mark in career earnings with the victory.
* In 2004, best of three top-10 finishes was a tie for eighth at the McDonald’s LPGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola.
* In 2003, had a breakout year with six top-10 finishes, including a season-best tie for second at the LPGA Takefuji Classic; posted a career-low 64 during the second round of the LPGA Corning Classic.
* In 2002, returned to the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament, where she tied for seventh to earn exempt status for the 2003 LPGA season.
* In 2000, competed on the Korea LPGA (KLPGA) Tour, where she won the Korea Women’s Open, the Hite Ladies Open and captured the Asian Open title for the third time; qualified for the LPGA Tour by tying for 49th at the LPGA Final Qualifying Tournament to earn non-exempt status for the 2001 LPGA season.
