The Slovenian returns to the U.S. Women's Open for a third time after sharing medalist honors at the Italy qualifier on April 29. Babnik posted 6-under 138 to tie Klara Davidson Spilkova, of Czechia, for top honors. Babnik has made the 36-hole cut in both of her previous U.S. Women's Open starts, including a share of 29th last year at Lancaster (Pa.) Country Club. Five years ago, Babnik won The R&A Girls Junior Amateur Championship at Panmure. A year later at 16, she joined the Ladies European Tour. And at 18 in 2021, she posted a pair of victories, the Jobra Ladies Open and the Aramco Team Series--Jeddah. At the age of 12 in 2016, Babnik played in her first professional event on the LET Access Series in Belgium, making the cut. Her first LET event came in 2019 at the Czech Ladies Open. She also represented Europe in the 2019 Junior Solheim Cup and Continental Europe in the 2019 Junior Vagliano Trophy. She represented Slovenia in the 2018 Mediterranean Games. In 2022, she finished third in the Chevron Championship, the final event staged at Mission Hills Country Club before moving to The Club at Carlton Woods in Greater Houston. Both of her parents, Alex and Mateja, represented their country in badminton. Babnik represented Slovenia in the past two Summer Olympics in Tokyo and Paris.
