Qualifier: Shot 68-72 at Gainey Ranch in Scottsdale, Ariz., on May 30
Three years after older brother Preston competed in the U.S. Open as the reigning U.S. Junior Amateur champion, Grace qualified for her first U.S. Women's Open by shooting 4-under-par 140 in a 36-hole qualifier at Gainey Ranch. Grace comes from a golf family as her father, Boyd, is a well known instructor who works with PGA Tour winner Tony Finau among others. Her great uncle, Bruce, was highly successful on the PGA Tour Champions, winning three times, and uncle Joe qualified for the 2023 U.S. Senior Open on the same day Grace got into the Women's Open. Her aunt, Carrie Roberts, is the women's golf coach at Brigham Young, and uncle Daniel competed on the PGA Tour, where he twice was a runner-up. Her great-grandfather, Pres, coached the men's team at the University of Utah. Her grandfather, Lynn, was the president of the Utah Junior Golf Association. Grace just completed her sophomore season at Arizona State. She reached the Round of 16 in the 2019 U.S. Girls' Junior at SentryWorld just a week after Preston won the Junior Amateur at Inverness Club. This past season, she posted three top-10s and five top-20s. At age 14, Summerhays qualified for the Utah State Amateur and competed against the best male players in the state. In 2020 at age 16, she became the youngest champion in the 114-year history of the Utah State Women's Amateur.
