The two-time U.S. Women's Amateur champion returns to the U.S. Women's Open following a three-year absence, thanks to shooting 1-under-par 143 at Dunwoody (Ga.) Country Club to garner the second and final spot from the qualifier. Gillman burst onto the national scene in 2014 when she defeated future major champion Brooke Henderson in the 36-hole final of the U.S. Women's Amateur at Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, N.Y. Four years later, Gillman again hoisted the Robert Cox Trophy by defeating incoming Alabama junior Jiwon Jeon at The Golf Club of Tennessee outside of Nashville. Gillman spent three seasons at the University of Alabama, where she was named the Southeastern Conference's Freshman of the Year following the 2015-16 season. Prior to enrolling at Alabama, she not only won the U.S. Women's Amateur but also the Girls Junior PGA Championship. At Alabama, she won the 2016 North & South Women's Amateur at Pinehurst and then became the second American to post a 5-0-0 mark (Stacy Lewis) to lead the USA Curtis Cup Team to a 17-3 victory at Quaker Ridge. That same year, Gillman, future two-time major champion and 2018 Curtis Cup teammate Lilia Vu and another future major champion/Curtis Cup teammate Jennifer Kupcho won the Women's World Amateur Team title in the Republic of Ireland. She also won a silver medal in the mixed team event at the 2015 Pan American Games and played on the U.S. Palmer Cup Team. She also tied for 27th as an amateur in the 2018 U.S. Women's Open at Shoal Creek. Gillman turned pro in the fall of 2018 after earning her LPGA Tour card by tying for 13th at the Q-Series and then made 22 of 26 cuts in her rookie campaign of 2019. That year, she also tied for sixth in the Chevron Championship. Her lone professional win to date came as an amateur on the Japan LPGA Tour at the Century 21 Ladies Golf Tournament.
