S-1: Winner of 2014 U.S. Women's Open Championship
The former child prodigy broke through for her first major championship at Pinehurst Resort & Country Club's Course No. 2, holding off Stacy Lewis by two strokes to claim the 2014 U.S. Women's Open. It ended a historic week for the resort as it hosted the U.S. Open a week earlier, becoming the first venue to conduct the two championships in the same year. Wie West first competed in a USGA championship at age 10 when she qualified for the 2000 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links. Three years later, she became the championship's youngest winner at 13. She lost in the championship match a year later to Yani Tseng. In the 2003 Kraft Nabisco Championship (now Chevron Championship), she became the youngest to make a cut, shooting a 66 in Round 3, which placed her in the final group on Sunday. In 2006, Wie West advanced to Final qualifying for the U.S. Open and just narrowly missed becoming the first female to play in the championship. A year earlier, she advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Amateur Public Links. She represented the USA in the 2004 Curtis Cup before turning pro in the fall of 2005. Her first LPGA Tour win came four years later in the Lorena Ochoa Invitational in Mexico. Her last victory remains the 2018 HSBC Women's World Championship. Wie West married Jonnie West, the son of NBA Hall of Famer Jerry West, in 2019, and the couple welcomed their first child (Makenna) in June of 2020. This will be her 18th U.S. Women's Open start.
