Qualifier: Shot 71-70--141 at Shannopin Country Club in Pittsburgh, Pa., on May 7
The West Chester, Ohio, native earned her fifth U.S. Women's Open start by defeating Canadian amateur Vanessa Borovilos in a playoff for the final spot in a qualifier conducted at Shannopin Country Club in Pittsburgh. Steen posted a 36-hole total of 1-under-par 141. After a 10-year professional career, Steen took a job last fall as the assistant women's golf coach at the University of Cincinnati. Previously, she claimed three Symetra Tour (now Epson Tour) victories, all in 2014, after turning professional out of Memphis University in 2012. Those three victories earned her a "battlefield" promotion to the LPGA Tour as well as player-of-the-year honors. An injury hindered her rookie LPGA Tour season in 2015, but after finishing eighth on the Symetra Tour money list in 2016, she regained her status on the LPGA Tour. An ankle injury hampered her 2018 season on the LPGA Tour. She did tie for eighth in the 2019 Australian Open and posted a T-10 result in the 2021 AIG Women's British Open. At Memphis from 2008-12, she was a six-time tournament medalist and was Conference USA's 2012 Scholar Athlete of the Year. Besides her coaching duties, Steen has served as a golf instructor since 2006 at a couple of courses, including Shaker Run G.C., site of the 2005 U.S. Amateur Public Links.
