The California native’s first professional victory turned out to be a major championship: the 2017 KPMG Women’s PGA Championship. The one-stroke win over Brooke Henderson came in her 144th start. Kang has since claimed five more titles, the latest coming at the 2022 Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions to kick off the season. Before turning professional, Kang registered back-to-back U.S. Women’s Amateur titles in 2010 and 2011. She will be making her 17th start in the U.S. Women’s Open, with her best finish solo fourth in 2018 at Shoal Creek. She qualified to play at The Riviera Country Club by posting even-par 142 at Somerset Country Club, in Mendota Heights, Minn., garnering the second and final spot. Kang represented the USA in the 2010 Women's World Amateur Team Championship, and the 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023 Solheim Cups. She played one spring semester at Pepperdine University in 2011 before turning professional following her second U.S. Women's Amateur victory. She defeated Jessica Korda in 2010 at the Charlotte Country Club and Moriya Jutanugarn at Rhode Island C.C. the following year, becoming the first back-to-back champion since Kellie Kuehne in 1995 and 1996.
