19th Hole Committee:

  • Assist on an as need basis with any volunteer committees who may need additional assistance throughout the week of the championship
  • Members of this committee will receive a set schedule just like all other committees, and will be deployed to a specific committee upon check in for their shift
  • This committee provides a great opportunity for those who are interested in multiple committees or who may not know which committee would be their first preference

Corporate Hospitality:

  • Assist the admissions operation for hospitality locations
  • Assist with the wristband swap and distribution for corporate clients
  • Provide information to clients and assist them with business functions as needed in their hospitality villages and areas

Disability Services:

  • Assist with the distribution of available scooters on a first come, first served basis
  • Transport individuals who require assistance to and from the drop-off areas via the six-passenger carts
  • Due to the use of golf carts, a security motor vehicle check is also required for all Disability Services volunteers over the age of 16

Drive Distance:

  • Drive Distance duties consist of tracking landing zones throughout the course on pre-determined holes
  • These duties occur only during the official practice rounds
  • This data gathered from practice rounds will help determine course set up for the championship rounds

Fan Services:

  • Fan Service volunteers will act as a hospitality arm by serving in a concierge roll to enhance the fan experience
  • Scan all tickets and credentials prior to allowing visitors to enter the championship grounds
  • Assist with the facial recognition process at admission gates

Hole and Grandstand Marshals:

  • It is up to the marshal to ensure that players are afforded a quiet and uninterrupted opportunity to compete and move freely around the golf course.
  • Signal the gallery to be quiet as players address the ball.
  • Follow the path of each player’s ball and help spot stray balls to maintain proper pace of play.
  • Management of fan grandstands.

Internal Shuttle:

  • Transport individuals throughout the golf course following a specific route to ensure passengers are dropped and picked up at designated areas onsite
  • Committee will utilize six passenger golf carts
  • Due to the use of golf carts, a security motor vehicle check is also required for all Internal Shuttle volunteers over the age of 16

Junior Activation

  • Facilitate child use of activation activities such as putting, chipping, arts and crafts, and exercise station
  • Hand out giveaways and prizes to participating youth
  • Due to interaction with youth, a security background check is also required for all Junior Activation volunteers over the age of 18

Merchandise

  • Assist USGA staff throughout the merchandise tent in all aspects such as greeting fans, assisting as a cash register ringer, or helping registers by bagging merchandise.
  • Assist with customer flow throughout the tent, directing, answering questions, etc.
  • Volunteers will staff the “merchandise/bag check” to check and hold merchandise for fans until they depart

On-Course Distribution:

  • Deliver via golf carts drinking water and other supplies to various facilities and locations onsite
  • May be required to lift heavy objects (up to 50 pounds)
  • Committee activities will be primarily located outside and will require the use of a golf cart
  • Due to the use of golf carts, a security motor vehicle check is also required for all On- Course Distribution volunteers over the age of 16

Player Tracking:

  • Will report the arrival of players to all practice areas, tee boxes, and greens throughout the week of the championship.
  • Additionally, during practice rounds, a member of our player tracking committee will remain on each tee box and report the arrival of players on the hole.
  • The data will be used by the USGA to allow fans to track and location their favorite player.

Practice Areas:

  • Assist with the management of the practice range, short game area and putting green
  • Manage ball distribution tent and sort golf balls appropriately to distribute to players
  • Organize and distribute name placards on teeing area
  • Due to the proximity to the competition, a security background check is also required for all volunteers over the age of 18

ShotLink Ball Spotters:

  • Assist in the collection of real-time scoring and statistical data with ShotLink technology.
  • With the support of oncourse ShotLink Scoring Techs, our Ball Spotters will help locate the flag shots that miss the fairway/green, assist with following ball flight from the tee, and relay information to Scoring Techs and remote producers such as penalty situations, obstructed shots, and other details for ball locations with obstructed views.

Standard Bearers

  • Committee members will walk all 18 holes with each group to carry a two-sided scoring standard, weighing approximately 10 lbs
  • During competition rounds, scores are kept on the standard and are updated as needed after every hole
  • The ability to navigate 18 holes and follow players on foot is required. (Ages 14 through 18 ONLY)

Volunteer Headquarters

  • Assist with managing the operations of volunteer headquarters facilities
  • Assist in distributing breakfast and afternoon snacks to volunteers within the hospitality facility
  • Assist with disseminating information to volunteers

Walking Scorers

  • The Walking Scorers committee provides accurate hole-by-hole information for each player in the groups to which that are assigned
  • Significant training is required for this role, which necessitated online courses prior to championship week, onsite hands-on training on Tuesday afternoon and a dress rehearsal on Wednesday morning
  • Due to the proximity to the competition, a security background check is also required. Volunteers unable to successfully complete these requirements will be replaced
  • Walking Scorer volunteers will be required to walk 18 holes. They will supervise and assist a youth standard bearer
  • The ability to use technology, have a good understanding of golf, navigate 18 holes and follow players on foot and good eyesight near and far is required
  • A mandatory classroom style training will take place on Tuesday, May 27th, with the mandatory onsite training to follow on Wednesday, May 28th. Both trainings are required for all members of the Walking Scorer committee. Specific times for these trainings will be communicated in the spring of 2025
